Basin Wastes: Pop-Up, Pop-Down and Universal
Every basin needs a waste, the fitting that seals the drain and lets the water out. This collection covers every type we stock, so you can find the one that suits your basin, your tapware finish, and how you like to use the plug.
Types of basin waste
Pop-up wastes are the most common: press the plug to close it, press again to open. Pop-down wastes, like the Madu Living basin pop-down waste, are designed to sit neatly in the drain of stone and vessel basins. Universal wastes from Oliveri and Linkware suit basins with or without an overflow, which makes them a safe choice when replacing a waste in an existing basin. Choosing by basin type
Ceramic counter top basins often have no overflow, so a non-overflow waste is usually right. Claya makes ceramic-cap wastes coloured to match its basins. Wall hung and semi-recessed basins often do have an overflow, so check before you order. Modern National makes 32mm wastes with and without overflow, plus a 40mm waste for baths.
Don't forget the trap
On wall hung basins and open vanities, the pipework under the basin is visible, so a matching bottle trap finishes the look.
